We're building a story. Isn't it exciting? Now there's no time limits to this. We can build this one story for all of eternity if we desire to, but exercising our writing talents is always a good thing. Here's the first paragraph: He'd been away, been away for a long time. The streets were barren. There were no sounds of the laughter, gossip, or even children at play. Faces appeared in windows, but they were shrouded in pain. Shrouded in fear. All right, whoever wants to do the next paragraph, let your fingers away to the keyboard's pleasure.

It didn't seem right. What happenned to change the town so much in just a few short years? He wandered to the end of the street, knocked on the familar worn blue painted door. When nobody ansewered, he lifted up the letter box and called through. "mum it's me, Jack. Are you going to let me in?"

At first, there was no answer. Then, a sudden movement at the window, so brief Jack wasn't sure if he actually saw it. The door opened a crack, the chain still on, although the lady behind it knew it would do no good if they really wanted to enter. "I had to make sure it was you." She opened the door and quickly ushered him inside.

The house smelt musty, the windows obviously hadn't been opened in a while, or cleaned, everything looked old, just like the entire town. "You weren't follwed were you?" "No mum. Are you alright?" "I'm alive aren't I?" Jack nodded "Then I'm alright. A lot better than most around here. Not since our Rhonda, but he's getting the boys now. They say she was the first. You shouldn't have come back." "It was on the news. You didn't answer the phone. I had to see you."

The women shook her head. "You still shouldn't of come."
Jack sighed, knowing there was no use in arguing with her. His mother would always be stubborn even in the middle of a crisis.
She sat across from him in her old rocking chair. The rocking calmed her, but it was still a very creepy, unsettling sound to Jack. But at least it was sound.

"I want you to come back with me.' "She's still out there. I can't leave until they bring her home." "They found her ma. You need to leave before..." "Oh don't be stupid. You know I can't leave. Not until they find all of her. I can't leave until they bring every last piece, so she can be buried. "

Jack finally had enough. He stomped his foot. "They ate her!" he shouted. "I watched them! There is nothing left, but what they gave to you!"
His mother just kept rocking as if she hadn't heard a word. Her mind was broken. Too broken to be fixed now Jack realized. He had come back all of this way for nothing.
"Maybe..." he whispered as he noticed movement in the far window. "Maybe not."

"Look ma we have to go now, before they find you, us" "I already told you Jack I'm not going." "Claire's pregnant ma. We're going to have a baby. A baby needs a nana." He lied as the scratching on the walls began. Then he noticed the baby bottle in the coffee table. "You have a here. If they find you know we're all in trouble." He whispered deliberatly avoiding the b word.

The woman just kept rocking in her chair. Her eyes wide as she stared at the floor. Yes, her mind of definitely broken. Jack couldn't fix this. Not now. Not with the scratching and the bottle sitting absently on the table.
"Is there one here?" he asked his mother.
The woman shook her head. "It was hers." she barely whispered. "She'll come back for it."
"Mom...Rhonda's dead. She isn't coming back."
"She'll come back for it." the woman repeated.
The scratching had stopped. They had moved on. Jack needed to get out of there. Claire would be waiting for him.
"Where's Adam?" he then asked.

"Adam's gone. There all gone. It's just be and Gail. Until they find her. They'll be back. There always coming back. The younger the better. The girls are there favourite. They started with them. Then they found the halflings the ones who were both, it confused them for a while. Didn't know what to do with them. Adam went quickly. He was a little bit of a girl after all. Liked his dresses. He was your pa's shame. Good job he's gone. He deserved to be gone. Bringing shame on us all." "You shouldn't say that ma. I'll take Gail with me. Are you coming or not?" He knew it would be risky taking a baby out of the house, especially a girl, but once he could get back to the city, and to Claire, she would be safe. It was worth the extra risk of the drive, and ferry crossing, to save the bit of his sister he had left, the bit that he had assumed had been lost "You can't take Gail." She barked, jumping up with a sudden energy which startled Jack. "She's my joy. She will bring back our Rhonda, our beautiful Rhonda." "Unbelievable. Adam is shunned for loving a man, and Rhonda is sacred despite turning tricks at 13, and having goodness knows who's baby." When he reached the door we stated finally "goodbye ma" as he headed for the baby.

Gail was sound asleep in her crib. The horror of the world was far from her mind. Jack hoped that she would not remember, when she grew up. He hoped that she couldn't remember what happened to Rhonda and Adam. Gail was two after all. She wouldn't remember, he told himself as he gently picked her up.

As Jack struggled to get Gail into her car seat without waking her, he saw someone approaching him, not just someone, a woman he once knew.
"Wow I thought I wouldn't see you again." she said.
"Yea" Jack muttered. He managed to get Gail into the car seat without waking her. He gently closed the door and headed for the driver's side door. He had to get her to safety. It wasn't safe here.
"Jack, we need-"
"No, Alia we do not need to do anything". Jack said. He was at the driver's side door now. About to get in his black Range Rover and hurry the hell out of the wretched place. However, he could feel eyes watching. From his mother's house, and across the street.
Alia took a deep breath and spoke, "I know things ended badly between us, but I need you and more importantly your mother. Jack your brother is missing and-"
"Alia, I have to do what is best for Gail," Jack said quietly as he longingly looked at her pleading for her to go. Her beauty was captivating, but he knew she was only trouble with had an overprotective father. He had made the mistake of getting involved with her once, he couldn't do it again, despite the temptation.
Alia took a step back and watched Jack get in Range Rover his muscles rippling underneath his shirt as he moved. She noticed his mother watching from the window when Alia made eye contact the curtains shut.
Jack started up the car and slowly pulled away and kept driving, he saw Alia in the rear view mirror she slowly turned away and headed back to her house. Jack returned his focus to the road and noticed Gail in the backseat, she was slowly awake but sweating, wheezing, her cheeks swollen.
"Gail, what's wrong?" Jack quickly pulled over and got out of the car, he opened the door and felt her burning forehead. Jack had to get her to the hospital he quickly got back in the driver's seat and pulled away to get to the hospital. Out of nowhere, bright lights shined into the wind shield.
