Recoloring Resources (aka bakes/multipliers) are used for aid in recoloring a mesh. It adds shadow and definition to your recolors. I put together a small tut to help you better understand...hope it helps. This is a bake/multiplier...Add your texture...in this case wood, for all parts of the mesh that are wood. Using the marquee tool, cut away all the areas of the wood texture from the areas you want to be a different texture.Overlay the wood onto the bake/multiplier.Add your fabric texture to all areas that require a fabric.Overlay the fabric to the bake/multiplier.When you are happy with your recolor, "merge" and "save" as PNG and import your new texture in S4S (or SimPE for Sims 2)
If you are still unsure about any steps, please let me know and I will try to help you
