Fixing Bumps, Specs & Shadows
in Sims 4
In this tutorial, I will show you how to get rid of the
terrible bumps & specs that may be ruining your CC!
Plus, I will also show you how to get rid of shadows that cause everything around your CC to turn black!
You can download the fixed Bump & Specs HERE
For this tutorial, I have meshed a little pillow (that will be available in an upcoming set)
As you can see, in the preview window, the pillow looks normal.
Pillow appears to be smooth and ready to add textures. But first, let us look at it in the game!
Oh My!!! That does not look right! It has some weird lines and splotches all over it!
This is because we have not replaced Bumps & Specs
and the strange splotches on the pillow are the bumps & specs
that belong to the object I cloned my pillow from...in this case, the Bust Of Barron.
Even worse, look at this pillow outside!
It is so shiny and the splotches are even more noticeable! You would not want this in your game!
Plus, there is the issue with the shadows that are attached to this mesh
that belong to the Bust Of Barron!
Look how dark the wall is....
...and it gets worse if you add a few more pillows!
Just imagine how much shadow that would cast on your sofa!
Not to worry! We will fix this!
In S4S, click on the "Warehouse" tab on the top left.
In "Warehouse", you will see two "DST Image", click on the first one.
You will see the "Bump" for the Bust Of Barron appear in the preview window to the right.
Click on the "Import" button on the bottom right corner.
Find the location where you have put your "Bump" and "Spec" fixed files.
Make sure you have file type to "DDS Image" (as these files must be in dds format).
Select the "blankbump.dds" file and click "Open"
Now the bump for the Bust of Barron has been replaced with the bump fix.
Now, let us fix the "Specs"
Select the second "DST Image" and you will see the Specs
for the Bust Of Barron appear in the preview window to the right.
Click on the "Import" button.
Again, making sure the file type is selected to "DDS Image"
Click on the "blankspec.dds" file and "Open"
Now the Specs have been replaced with the fix.
Let us now fix the terrible shadows!
On the left, a few tabs below the DDS Images, you will see one called "Light"
Click on it and you will see on the right side, the word "Occluders".
There is a tab directly across from it that says, "Edit Items..." Click on it.
Another window will open and you will see in the top left corner a few "occluders" are there.
(there maybe more or less occluders and sometimes none...
depending on what mesh was used to clone)
On the bottom left, you will see a button that says "Remove"
Click the "Remove" button until all "occluders" have been removed
On the right bottom corner, click the "Save" button.
(another little window will appear that says "your package has been saved"...and click "ok")
Now you are ready to go back in game and recheck!
Now Look!!! Much better!
No more weird splotches, no more shiny and no more awful shadows!
You are free to add texture and enjoy your CC!!!
You can also import any meshes or recolors made by other creators and fix these issues.
I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and found it useful!
Happy SIMming!
